Passive Solar Home

This slideshow includes AutoCAD floorplans and elevations, as well as renderings and a model.

Client: Victor, Jeanne, and Bradley Underhill

The Challenge:Victor and Jeanne Underhill have recently purchased a 3 acre lot in Mound, Minnesota. They would like to build a new home that is both Eco-friendly and accessible for their newly wheelchair-bound son Bradley. The design must meet ADA guidelines and incorporate passive solar technology.

Concept: I will create a home that is efficient, modern, and feels like it belongs to the surrounding Minnesota landscape. I will do this by keeping the design of the home modern, keeping the floor plan open with clean lines throughout, using sustainable materials, furniture, finishes, and by using earth tones, and the colors of the surrounding landscape.
I will incorporate the idea of a sod home by giving the home a sod roof that will give the illusion of being built into a hillside and accomplishing the oneness with the surroundings. I will use large windows on the South and North side of the home to utilize the sun as an energy source as well as to let in as much light possible, and to allow for cross breezes through the main living space.
